Pcubed has helped Statoil Fuel & Retail in a range of areas during the migration journey from SAP to Oracle JD Edwards, since being brought into the programme in October 2011. The services our staff have provided include Programme Leadership, Managing Change and Enterprise Project Delivery.
Statoil Fuel & Retail (SFR) is a leading Scandinavian road transport fuel retailer with over 100 years of operations in the region. SFR has a broad retail network across Scandinavia, Poland, the Baltics, and Russia with approximately 2,300 full-service (fuel and convenience) or automated (fuel only) stations, and around 18,000 employees.
Statoil Fuel & Retail is a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. and part of a network of more than 8,100 stations and 70,000 passionate retailers that welcomes more than 30 million visitors every week.
As part of a separation from its former parent company, Statoil Fuel & Retail (SFR) needed to establish its own Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, supporting some key business operations such as finance, HR and procurement where supply chain replaces HR. In June 2011 SFR choose Oracle JD Edwards to provide the new ERP system and started the world’s first ever SAP to Oracle JDE migration. The migration ran across seven countries and directly impacted several thousand employees. The migration project itself involved a third party main integrator and multiple contractors and service providers based across several countries. On 15 October 2011, Pcubed were brought into the migration project, with four Pcubed staff starting work – three in the areas of PMO support, change management and one as co-lead of the project. The Pcubed team was expanded to 23 staff to support the first deployment in Sweden in June 2013 (working in the areas highlighted below) and the team was ramped down in the final stages of the project in the first few months of 2014.
The Pcubed Solution
Pcubed, in close collaboration with the client, was engaged to support the programme in providing structure, governance and a methodology to ensure quality throughout the programme in a number of key project areas. Some of the key solutions delivered were:
- Set-up and ongoing running of a project management office (PMO) together with the client as a managed service, including project wide resource management
- Defining an organisational change roadmap, supporting its implementation and leading the communications process
- Defining the training requirements, overall strategy, detailed plan and the coordination of multi-national training
- Supporting the critical data migration work in the deployments, working with SFR
- Providing management support by co-leading the overall programme, working closely with the client, leading the Finance stream and co-leading the change and communications team.

The processes and services implemented and delivered by Pcubed has supported the client to bring a structured and robust approach to the overall ERP implementation project with time, cost and quality remaining within the agreed tolerances and reporting and processes facilitating pragmatic delivery. On the organisational side, the processes and services implemented and delivered by Pcubed in conjunction with the client have resulted in increased awareness and engagement in the overall client organisation, with seven separate country organisations being engaged and involved.
